Following an idea suggested by the Reverend A.M. Dixon, a group of Troy citizens began meeting in the 1930s to plan recreational activities for the youth of Troy. They found a room above what was recently the Amish Furniture Store and held their meetings there. In 1941 they moved into the present Market Street building and named the Reverend A.M. "Pop" Dixon (at right), a pastor for the First Baptist Church, as the first director..
